Canoeing along the coastal sea shore in Mississippi.
Gulf Island National Park located in Ocean Springs, MS is a beautiful place. The waterways are open and the wildlife is bountiful. There is so much to do there. Yvette, Alex and Vince Blackwell of Ocean Springs spent the day canoeing throughout the park. What a great way to spend some quality time on the weekend.
Marshall Park is a cute little park located right off of Washington Avenue in Historic Ocean Springs. This park is well manicured and has great southern charm and appeal. The Gazebo is the center piece of the park.
Having never served in the armed forces myself, I pay a bit more attention to those who have. This weekend I took my kids out to the Mississippi Vietnam War Memorial. I think it is important to teach our children early what sacrifices are made by soldiers and their families. The Mississippi Vietnam War Memorial is located in Ocean Springs. It is a great tribute to the soldiers who have paid the ultimate price for serving our nation.
The Duck Pond By the Train Depot in Old Town Bay St. Louis
Bay St. Louis did a wonderful job making a wide open area into a sweet spot. The Duck Pond is phenomenal! Kids and adults both love to come here. There are benches and swings around to relax and watch the ducks play. If you want to be more involved, the ducks love to be fed. The park includes a great water crossing bridge complete with a small waterfall type scene. I know many an hour will be spent enjoying this wonderful scene set in the heart of Old Town.
War Memorial Park E Scenic Dr & Fleitas Ave – Pass Christian
Just beautiful! The first thing I noticed when we pulled up to this park was the gorgeous Oak Trees. They are scattered all over the park and create a lovely shaded area where all of the picnic benches are. This is such a wonderful place to spend the morning playing and eating lunch. The equipment…WOW! There’s a lot of things to play on. You child will have a blast here. Speaking of blast….there are 2 huge guns mounted at the front of the park facing the beach. I imagine these guns were used back in the day to defend the land against pirates and such.
The Park is not a playground, but more of a nature spot. It has a nature trail with a Butterfly Garden. It doesn’t seem like the park has been maintained lately. The signs are down or hardly legible. There are fallen trees and a good bit of over growth. This might be a good thing if you want to see some wild animals such as deer. It is located on Menge Avenue not too far off of the beach road. Although some signs are down it is a great park for a scenic walk through the woods. The path was well worn although some trees were laying across parts of the paths. It is not a good park for Pass Christian area toddlers looking to play, but will surely please nature and hiking enthusiasts.
