The Blind Tiger is buying the lot next to them at 119 North Beach on the Main Street side of Beach Boulevard in Bay St. Louis. This means more business and more jobs for the local community. The people of Bay St. Louis are excited about this new and exciting expansion of the ever growing and popular Blind Tiger of Bay St. Louis. In the new three-story building, The Blind Tiger will have a hand-crafted brewing station and an oyster bar facing the water. WLOX recently did a story about the new devopment with an interview of the owner, Thomas Genin, and Bay St. Louis’s Mayor. It is a great story about the redeveolpment of Bay St. Louis and the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The Blind Tiger opened it’s doors in early 2013 to resounding applause from residents and tourists. “We have been very excited to be apart of the community of Bay St. Louis, ” said one employee of The Blind Tiger. Any night you’ll walk into The Blind Tiger and see friendly faces, good eats and tons of drinks. That’s not all. On weekends, they have artists play in the open courtyard overlooking the beach. After the marina is complete, the possibilities will be endless for The Blind Tiger to grow and look to the future. Not to mention, the view is already amazing. UFO appears in Coastal90 Mississippi Photo from July 4th

Look at the blurry thing in the sky. I am not sure what we caught in this image. I posted the image taken only a second before this photo so you can see the progression from frame to frame. I am not sure if this is a UFO or something else. Thought it was interesting because it kind of resembles an airplane. Odd that it is only found in one frame of the beach photos. Notice the wake on the boat for timing and also the person drinking from a glass on the right.

Notice the blur in the sky, is this a UFO off the Mississippi Gulf Coast?

Metal Detecting on the Mississippi Beaches

Metal-detecting-on-the-coast-of-mississippi
Metal detecting has picked up in popularity along with Kayak fishing and pier fishing on the Coast of Mississippi. Many days I watch at least two or three individuals searching for lost treasure on the beaches along the Beach Rd.

Metal Detecting in Mississippi has become high tech.

I spent a few hours with Dewayne M. from Hancock County while he was searching for lost treasures. His metal detector was an average model but could tell the difference between gold, silver, jewelry, a quarter, a nickel, an aluminum can and even a dime. This allowed him to focus his search. Although he only found some items destroyed in Katrina during his dig with me. A later conversation with Dewayne confirmed that he had found two pieces of jewelry on the beach. Although none of it was very valuable, he finds great excitement searching for buried treasure along the Coast of Mississippi with his metal detector.

A few pointers for using a metal detector along the beach areas. You will need a few items to make your day enjoyable. Here is a list of items that can help you have a great day metal detecting along the beaches.

  • Sunscreen
  • Metal Detector
  • Small Garden Shovel
  • Pair of Pliers
  • Bottle of Water
  • Ziploc Bag for Treasure
  • Gloves
  • Bug Spray

Have fun when visiting the Mississippi Gulf Coast and keep checking Coastal90.com for more information on things to do and see on your visit.

Kayak Fishing Guide Coastal Mississippi

Kayak Fishing is all the rage on the Coast of Mississippi

Over the last few years, kayak fishing has gone from a small unrecognized sport to a full blown obsession.  Driving along the beach in Mississippi you are sure to see at least a couple of kayakers fishing.  Kayak fishing is a great sport for people from all walks of life.  It requires very little money to begin participating and provides extreme challenges and excitement for well seasoned fisherman.  It is real easy to take your kayak to the beach, drag it to the water and begin fishing within minutes of your arrival.  It is important to always wear a life jacket when kayak fishing.  It only takes a few seconds for you to be in the water.  Another safety tip for kayak fisherman is to have a well defined float plan left with a family member or friend who can make sure you arrive safely back at shore.

There are many spots along the coast of Mississippi that attract large numbers of kayak fisherman. Waveland, Bay St. Louis, Pass Christian, Long Beach, Gulfport, Biloxi & Ocean Springs all have great spots that are easily accessible from shore.

Here are a few tips for choosing a great kayak for fishing along the beach areas of Mississippi.

  • Choose a water tight sit on top kayak
  • Choose a kayak that has integrated rod holders
  • Choose a kayak that has an easy option for an ice chest or cold storage
  • For those with smaller vehicles, a kayak that breaks into several pieces may be a good choice
  • Make sure to purchase both a drift anchor and a regular anchor for your kayak
  • Personal opinion is that you should buy a bright colored kayak that can be easily seen by boaters and those attempting to find you

Here are a few essential items to have in your fishing kayak.

  • A knife
  • A mirror
  • An extra life vest (not including the one you are wearing)
  • At least 1 gallon of fresh water
  • Emergency snacks
  • A hand held marine radio
  • A cell phone
  • A GPS
  • A compass
  • A small spool of parachute cord
  • A water tight personal bag
  • A printed map of the area you intend to fish
  • An emergency back up paddle
  • A space blanket
  • Sunscreen
  • Bug spray
  • Flashlight
  • Navigation lights

This list is not all inclusive, but will provide a great start to kayak fishing along the Mississippi Gulf Coast waters.  Make sure you check the weather forecast before leaving shore.  Kayak fishing is not a all weather sport.  Make sure you pay attention to boaters and realize you are very close to the water at all times.  If you hook an extremely large fish be careful because it can capsize your kayak.  Many fisherman have a leash to their paddle and to their kayak.

Catching Fish

You can use the deck of your boat to store fish in ice under a towel or you can put them in an ice chest. Depending on the number and aggressiveness of sharks in the area, you may be able to use a stringer.  Just be aware that a stringer of fish can get in the way of landing your next catch.  Also a stringer of larger fish can pull your kayak out of the optimal fishing position.

Remember to get the proper fishing license before hitting the water. You will need a salt water fishing license to fish any of the coastal waters south of I-10. Check local and state of Mississippi regulations to be current on any new or updated regulations.

Hancock County Mississippi Coast Casinos

Hancock County is the first County you get to when coming into Mississippi from Louisiana on Interstate-10. There are two casinos in Hancock County.

The Silver Slipper on the beach and The Hollywood Casino in Bay St Louis.

The two casinos have great choices for dining and gambling. The Silver Slipper is known for its buffet, especially their crab legs buffet. The Hollywood Casino is known for the most amazing dessert selection on the coast.

The Hollywood Casino has a hotel and offers amenities like swimming, golf and rv park in addition to gaming.

The Silver Slipper Casino also has an RV park on the beach.

Either way if you are looking for a casino on the coast, I would not hesitate to visit either casino. They are both well known for great food and service.
