Metal detecting has picked up in popularity along with Kayak fishing and pier fishing on the Coast of Mississippi. Many days I watch at least two or three individuals searching for lost treasure on the beaches along the Beach Rd.
Metal Detecting in Mississippi has become high tech.
I spent a few hours with Dewayne M. from Hancock County while he was searching for lost treasures. His metal detector was an average model but could tell the difference between gold, silver, jewelry, a quarter, a nickel, an aluminum can and even a dime. This allowed him to focus his search. Although he only found some items destroyed in Katrina during his dig with me. A later conversation with Dewayne confirmed that he had found two pieces of jewelry on the beach. Although none of it was very valuable, he finds great excitement searching for buried treasure along the Coast of Mississippi with his metal detector.
A few pointers for using a metal detector along the beach areas. You will need a few items to make your day enjoyable. Here is a list of items that can help you have a great day metal detecting along the beaches.
Small Garden Shovel
Pair of Pliers
Bottle of Water
Ziploc Bag for Treasure

Weekends like this remind us of how great living on and visiting the coast of Mississippi can be. Great friends from the coast and New Orleans roll in to share Barbeque, Crawfish and family. The weather is beautiful and music fills the air. The beaches are getting lots of welcome visitors. Have a safe and Happy Memorial Day Weekend. Visit one of the festivals on the coast! Bay Harbor Fest, St Clare Seafood Fest, Pass Christian Jazz.
Coastal90 is going to work harf to recommend healthy options on the Mississippi Gulf Coast this year. There are so many healthy options for food and activities along the Gulf Coast.
So every week we hope to write articles about healthy dining choices, healthy events and festivals, great activities, health and healthy product offerings, and a section on quitting smoking. We will also support a Smoke Free Mississippi. http://www.healthy-miss.org
So get a new pair of running shoes, a new blender for juice and smoothies and order more salads before taking an afternoon walk listening to your Ipod on the beaches of Mississippi.
Some times the mark we leave may be in passing, but the marks and prints still tell stories. We take the kids to the Mississippi Gulf coast beaches quite often. It is always fun to follow the footprints in the sand. Sometimes we even stumble upon messages waiting to meet the sea. We hope you find a path to Mississippi’s great beaches and local attractions.
Driving down Coastal Highway 90 in Mississippi is an experience in beach viewing. This is because for miles and miles and miles you will pass Piers, Shops, Restaurants and of course Beaches. Friday nights is our usual Dinner with the family night. We love to hop in the car almost at sunset and cruise from Pascagoula down to Waveland visiting each little beach town along the way. Scenic towns like Bay St. Louis, Pass Christian, Long Beach, Gulfport, Biloxi, Ocean Springs are covered during our drive. Along the way we pick a great dining spot and chow down some tasty treats. Being new to Mississippi, we have found that there are an amazing number of neat things to see and do along Coastal 90. Today I have learned of a giant rocking chair located in Gulfport at the Dedeaux furniture company. Pictures of the giant rocker will be coming soon. We just love giant and over-sized items for the site, just feels right. So keep submitting new items using our forms and submission links.
